My Story

Ocsober is important to me on a couple of levels. Firstly Life Education teaches our kids about the importance of moderation and balance, it alerts them to the dangers but in a positive way. For me as the Chief of Navy to have a future workforce that has been 'Life Educated' is a real bonus and means we don't start from scratch. For Navy itself to be heavily involved in Ocsober is an important statement about what we are doing to address the use and management of alcohol. Its another way to reinforce to our people that responsible use of alcohol is critical for their health and well being and important for the Navy's reputation.

Welcome to the HMAS Harman Home Page. Ocsober encourages Aussies to go "sober in October" to raise money for Life Education Australia. The Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral Ray Griggs, Navy's Ocsober Ambassador says: "The Royal Australian Navy is proud to be involved in Life Education's Ocsober Campaign". Life Education is the largest non-government provider of drug and health education to Australian kids. The not-for-profit organisation visits primary schools to teach students about the dangers of excessive alcohol and drug use through their lovable giraffe mascot, Healthy Harold, who has been a favourite with kids for 30 years! The aim of Ocsober 2013 is to raise $1,000,000 to help Life Education and Healthy Harold reach even more Australian school children across the country.

You can join the HMAS Harman team and start work getting family and friends to sponsor you to give up alcohol for 31 days. Please allow up to 48 hours for your team membership to be activated.

Got something special planned? DON'T PANIC. Leave Passes can also be bought for those who have a special occasion and want the night off!
